Police asked to identify trouble-prone areas and form QRT

DGP reviews election preparedness in West Zone district

Director General of Police (Elections) Ashutosh Shukla reviewed election preparedness in West Zone districts here on Monday.

Commissioners of Police from Salem, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Inspector General of Police (West Zone), Deputy Inspector General of Police of Salem and Coimbatore ranges attended the meeting.

The DGP instructed all the police officials to identify the places which are trouble prone and to form adequate number of Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) to ensure smooth conduct of poll and maintenance of public order and tranquillity during the election.

The enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was reviewed in the meeting. As many as 483 flying squads and 232 static surveillance teams have been formed to monitor the enforcement of the poll code. Since the code came into effect, 918 cases were booked for violations.

The DGP said that additional flying squads have been deployed in all sensitive pockets.

Special Branch and Intelligence Sections have been specifically instructed to collect informations regarding any illegal cash distribution and measures are being taken to curb such activities. Pamphlets containing the phone numbers of police officers have been distributed to the public to extract information about cash distribution and other illegal activities.

Naxal Special Division and Special Task Force teams are working towards preventing Left Wing Extremism (LWE) activities in Tamil Nadu Forest areas in the West Zone.
