Western disturbance likely to peak on Tuesday: Met Dept

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi, has forecast intense weather conditions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with possibility of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, hailstorm and squalls with wind speed of 60-80 kmph.

The Meteorological Department on Sunday said that analysis of weather conditions indicate that a strong western disturbance is approaching and will affect weather over northwest India, including Delhi-NCR.

The peak activity is expected on Tuesday.

“The western disturbance approaching northwest India will draw fresh moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.The thermodynamic atmospheric conditions would become favourable for the development of instability in the atmosphere and occurrence of widespread thunderstorm activity over the region,” the Met department said.

Intense rainfall is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, said the weatherman.

Monday’s forecast

For Monday, the forecast for Delhi reads: “Partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundery development. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be within 39 and 23 degrees Celsius.”

On Sunday, the maximum temperature settled at 38.1 degrees Celsius which was two degrees above normal and the minimum was 21.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.
