Touches upon neglect of civic issues

“On Tamil New Year day, I want the seeds of a new revolution to be sown,” Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan told voters here.

On Sunday morning and afternoon, the actor campaigned in three different Parliamentary constituencies for his party’s candidates. Kick-starting the campaign in Otteri in the Chennai North constituency, Mr. Haasan campaigned for party candidate A.G. Mourya.

“This is not a crowd that has come to see an actor. To see the actor, you can go to an air-conditioned theatre. You have chosen to come here and listen to us speak about the Tamil Nadu of tomorrow and this is what is important,” the actor said to raucous applause from crowds there.

The actor also campaigned for Tiruvallur Lok Sabha constituency candidate M. Logarangan and Sriperumbadur Lok Sabha constituency candidate M. Sridhar.

‘Choose wisely’

“A lot has been said about how these elections will decide who will become the Prime Minister of the country. I, however, want people to focus on the fact that they should elect a worthy candidate who can represent their concerns rearing their constituency in the Parliament,” he said.

Through his speeches across the three constituencies, Mr. Haasan touched upon concerns related to the degradation of waterbodies and neglect of civic issues. “The anger that people have in their minds, I can see in their eyes,” he said, urging them to go out and exercise their franchise on April 18.

In a video announcement shared later during the day, Mr. Haasan called for booth volunteers for the party and asked interested persons to register.
