Nagpur: Orange City’s maiden ultra-modern eye hospital to be run on no-profit basis will come up in Mihan soon. It will be a new building of renowned Suraj Eye Institute situated at New Colony. The hospital will have several advanced equipment in the field of eye care. Construction of this building got formally started with the foundation ceremony held in city on Sunday.
Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit was chief guest of the foundation ceremony that was attended by who’s who of Nagpur city.

“Quality eye care using latest technology and science and affordable eye care for all is the core vision of our institute. As a non-profit foundation, we have appealed to the public to support for the cause. We are hopeful that donors will support us and the work will complete within deadline,” said Dr Vinay Nangia, director of Suraj Eye Institute. The hospital will be built with the contribution by donors for which Om Drishti Trust has made customized plans for donors.

“From Rs2 lakh per general ward bed to Rs2 crore per block of the 9-block hospital, we have several donation options for people. The rooms, blocks will be named after the donors. Donations are 50% tax exempt under section 80G,” he added. The hospital is run by the Om Drishti Trust.

“For last 25 years or so, Dr Nangia is reaching out to the community to give them sight. But, he keeps his work away from publicity. He is performing cataract surgeries for the rural poor, working for screening of schoolchildren and reaching out to government institutes to provide eye care services. He has started a huge work by bringing this world class hospital to Nagpur. Good Samaritans should come forward to support him,” Purohit said.

The new Suraj Eye Institute will not only focus on affordable eye care for all, but also on research and training. On Sunday, Dr Girish Rao, medical director of Sankara Netralaya (India’s prominent not-for-profit charitable eye hospital), was guest of honour along with Dr Francis Hiddema, former CEO of Rotterdam Eye Hospital in The Netherlands. They spoke about eye care of premature babies and advanced technology in retinopathy.
