The Patriots slot cornerback is officially back in the fold.

According to a source, Jonathan Jones signed his one-year restricted free-agent tender on Monday. The 25-year-old will earn $3.095 million in 2019 and will become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

Jones’ return this year was all, but guaranteed. Back in March, the Patriots placed a second-round tender on the restricted free agent cornerback. If a team tried to sign Jones to an offer sheet, the Patriots would’ve been given that team’s second-round pick had they not matched the offer.

Jones is a solid piece to the Patriots defense. This past season, he finished with three interceptions, seven passes defensed and 1.5 sacks in 16 games. Jones’ play in the AFC Championship game was instrumental as he shut down Pro Bowl receiver Tyreek Hill. When the Patriots lost Patrick Chung in the Super Bowl, Jones even stepped up and played safety.

An undrafted free agent in 2016, Jones has more than proved his worth in the NFL. Along with being a solid slot cornerback, he’s also a core special team player for the Patriots.
