Two-storey Logan home engulfed in flames, declared crime scene

Fire has ripped through a two-storey Logan home overnight, with police fearing two residents might have been trapped inside the inferno when they first arrived.

Emergency services were called to the house on Hakari Street in Crestmead just before 12.30am, where flames had already taken hold.

"When we arrived on scene, both levels of the dwelling were fully involved. Our focus was mainly on the buildings either side," firefighter Ross Bobbermien told Nine.

"Both police and residents from the area said there’s normally two people living downstairs.

"It was quite some time before police were able to locate them, they’ve been found safe, so we believe there is no one inside the property.

"The building has collapsed and we are still dampening down hot spots."

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said there were no injuries and paramedics remained at the scene on standby for firefighters.

The home was declared a crime scene, with police and fire service forensic investigators to examine the scene on Monday.

Any witnesses should contact Policelink on 13 14 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
