A 19-year-old youth died after his friend allegedly shot him inside a car on Barakhamba Road in central Delhi, the police said on Sunday.
A senior officer said they received information from Lok Nayak Hospital that one Salman from New Jafrabad was admitted in the emergency ward after sustaining a gunshot injury on his left cheek. One Hazi Imran admitted him in the hospital at 11.15 p.m. on April 13 where he was declared brought dead, they said.
During investigation, it was revealed that Salman, along with his two friends — Sohail from New Jafrabad and Aamir from New Seelampur, had gone to India Gate in his car, the officer said. The incident happened when they were returning and were near Ranjit Singh Flyover. Sohail, who was sitting in the front seat along with driver Salman, took out a countrymade pistol and allegedly fired at him.
Aamir, who was sitting in the rear seat, was making a video on a mobile application at the time, they added.
When the bullet hit Salman, both his friends panicked and Sohail drove the car to his relative’s place at Daryaganj and changed his bloodstained clothes there.
Following this, Sohail’s relative Imran took Salman to a hospital, the police said.
After admitting him, the trio left the hospital.
A case under sections of murder and Arms Act was registered at Barakhamba police station.
On Sunday, the police arrested three people: Sohail for firing the gun, Aamir for disposing of the weapon and one Shareef, for disposing of the bloodstained clothes.
Post-mortem today
The post-mortem will be conducted on Monday, the police said, adding that they are investigating whether the bullet was fired accidentally or intentionally.
A relative of Salman said, “Two of his friends came to his house on April 13 night and asked him to visit India Gate with them. After this, Salman took his car and left.”
On the intervening night of April 13 and 14, they received information about the incident from the police and reached the hospital, he said. Salman, the youngest child in the family, was doing his graduation from distance learning. He also helped his father who had a clothing business in Jafrabad, the relative added.
