VELLORE: A Tirupattur-based home for psycho-social rehabilitation of people suffering from learning difficulties has helped a man from Uttar Pradesh reunite with his family after 16 years.
According to Udhavum Ullangal founder C Ramesh, the man was rescued from Uthangarai bus stand in Krishnagiri district three years ago when he was found wandering wearing soiled clothes. He couldn’t remember anything.

A psychiatrist certified him to be suffering from learning difficulties. He was lodged in the Udhavum Ullangal home and was under the treatment of experts from Walaja Government Hospital and from a private hospital in Bagayam.

Three days ago, the man regained memory and informed the home staff that his name was Janarthanan hailing from Pacheri village in Kashipur district of Uttar Pradesh.

He was married to Kamala and has two daughters, Mangitha and Santhi.

He started suffering from learning difficulties 16 years ago and had been wandering since then.

After hearing his story, the staff of the home, with the help of Tirupattur district administration, lodged a complaint with the Jamania police in UP to trace his family members.

The Jamania police traced Janarthanan’s family. His family members, including his wife , two daughters and brother Angar Singh, came to Tirupattur on Saturday.

Janarthanan was handed over to his family members in the presence of Tirupattur sub-collector Priyanka Pankajam.
