Kin tried to enter with invalid pass and eight at a time against hospital rules: security in-charge

A family of a patient undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre was allegedly thrashed by bouncers and security guards deployed for security in the premises on Sunday.

The clash broke out at 3 p.m. when the bouncers deployed at the entry gate of the Trauma Centre denied entry to the family members of a 14-year-old girl who is undergoing treatment at the hospital for spine injury.

Security in-charge of the hospital, Biplab Mishra, said that the clash broke out when eight members of a family wanted to enter the hospital to visit the patient. As per the hospital rules, only two visitors are allowed at a time and the rules are for safety of patients.

Probe ordered

“An inquiry has been ordered into the incident. We will verify the facts of both the parties from footages of the CCTV installed at the hospital gate. Initially, the family members of the patient were more in number and they attacked security guards. Later, the guards called back-up and the clash broke out,” said Dr. Mishra.

The family members, however, alleged that security guards often stop them from visiting the patient. On Sunday, they had borrowed a visitor entry pass from another patient in the ward. The security guard at the entry gate refused to allow because the pass borrowed belonged to another family. A woman who tried to use the pass to enter was taken to the security manager who cancelled the pass. The woman told this to the other family members and a clash subsequently broke out between them and the bouncers.

The police said that they were informed around 3 p.m. regarding a quarrel at the AIIMS Truma Centre. The complainant reported that the security guards and bouncers at the gate had assaulted her husband and her sister and that the husband also sustained injuries. Four injured persons were examined and an MLC has been prepared. “The injured persons have got stitches and also sustained fractures. They are undergoing treatment at AIIMS,” said a police officer.

“A case under Indian Penal Code Sections 323 [punishment for voluntarily causing hurt] and 341 [punishment for wrongful restraint] and 354 [molestation] has been registered at Safdurjung Enclave police station. We have arrested five bouncers, including the supervisor. We are corroborating the statement of the victims with the available mobile footage and CCTV footage of the hospital,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Devendra Arya.
