Man gets 20 yrs jail in gang rape case

Ranchi: A Ranchi court on Monday sentenced a 23-year old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of gang rape of a minor girl under Mandar police station area in Ranchi district in February 2014. Additional judicial commissioner Diwakar Pandey also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on Wasim Ansari with the condition that he would have to undergo an additional year term in case of default in payment. The court had convicted Ansari under Section 376 (2) (1) of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of POCSO Act. The judge ordered that the amount collected as fine would be handed over to the survivor. The survivor was returning from school after attending Saraswati puja when Wasim and Hafiz Ansari dragged her to a mustard field and raped her. Hafiz was declared a minor and his case was referred to juvenile justice board.
