A decapitated and decomposed body of a woman was found in Bhiwandi’s Sonale village on Saturday night. The Bhiwandi Taluka police are investigating and also trying to find any possible links to a similar case reported in Palghar on April 8.

Around 10.30 p.m. on Saturday, police personnel patrolling the village noticed a foul smell emanating from a drum covered in cloth. On uncovering the drum, the police found a decapitated body inside.

“The head, right hand and the lower limbs from below the knee are missing. We have not come across any identification marks so far,” inspector Sanjay Hajare from the Bhiwandi Taluka police said. “We are conducting an inquiry in the nearby areas to find traces of any suspicious activity in the last few days,” he said.

Mr. Hajare said based on the condition of the torso, the death seems to have occurred three to four days ago. The police are also making inquiries about missing person complaints filed in nearby areas.

A similar case was reported on April 8 in Palghar, where a decapitated body of a young woman was found in Waliv creek.

Inspector Vilas Chagule from the Waliv police station said, “The common thread is that both the bodies are decapitated. We haven’t found the head of the body recovered from the creek yet. A red thread tied around the hand is the only sign of identification.”
