After introducing its fleet of autorickshaws with hijab-clad women and transgender drivers in Chennai, Madurai, and Tiruchi, MAuto Group of Companies launched a similar service here on Sunday.
Mansoor Ali Khan, chairman of MAuto Group of Companies, said the service with women and transgenders as ‘pilots’ was aimed at offering safer travel for women and providing employment opportunities to the needy. “With this initiative, we are addressing two crucial issues in one go -- providing a respectable, lucrative livelihood option to women in need, while making the daily commute of their well-to-do counterparts safe and hassle-free,” he said.
With 330 women as drivers of its fleet so far, the company will soon introduce services in Erode, Salem and Tiruppur. The company also launched ‘Women's Pride’ icon on their mobile app ‘MAuto Pride’, which comes with a panic button and tracking system. It also gives the rider an option to choose the ride with a male, female or transgender driver. MAuto Pride is available on all app stores. Apart from the app, customers can book rides at 044 4321-4321.
