Corporation digs up roads, residents of Sushant Lok fume

Gurgaon: Residents of Sushant Lok 1 are angry with Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) for digging up roads in the colony for “development work”. They said that the condition of the roads had only gone from bad to worse.
Road repair has been a long pending demand of the residents. Last month, MCG approved the first tenders for development work in Sushant Lok 1 and South City 1 after taking over the townships in February. The work is expected to cover inadequacies that residents have been flagging with regards to sewers, parks and roads.

Tenders for work worth Rs 44 crore have been released for Sushant Lok 1 while Rs 16 crore will be spent on the work in South City 1.

“Some machinery was brought here, last month but it has not been put to any use. Earlier, some of the road surfaces were scraped off and earth was dug out, which has made commuting inside the colony more difficult,” said Neelu Sharma, who heads the association Residents United. “If anyone happens to walk on the service road near Vyapar Kendra, they will see how bad the situation is,” Sharma added.

MCG started the work on roads and streetlights in Sushant Lok 1, last month, but residents are angry with how the work is proceeding. “We met some MCG officials and they told us that the project will go on for 18 months. Are we going to wait that long for positive changes? Apparently, the corporation is waiting for an approval regarding what would be use for the repair work — water bound macadam or wet mix macadam,” another resident said.

When contacted, MCG officials said that they would soon take care of the problem. “The work will be resumed soon,” an official said.
