YOU CAN’T ASK THAT: INTERSEX
★★★★
9pm, ABC
Jokes about the ever-expanding initialism to describe the non-heterosexual, non cisgender community won’t seem so amusing once this group of people identifying as intersex explain what the “I” in LGBTQI means to them. Questions are raised around the issue of medical intervention in children. Answers about how the plumbing works are frankly given. Once again, this program deftly plays to our fascination with the unusual while delivering truth bombs about casual discrimination.
FAMILY GUY
★★★★
9.30pm, 7mate
Miss the opening of this episode of Seth MacFarlane’s sardonic adult animation at your peril. Titled “You Can’t Handle the Booth”, the characters break what might be the fifth wall by diverting from their lines in the recording studio to heatedly discuss such matters as different comedy devices and the gender pay gap. It’s a clever tactic that requires a bit more concentration than usual in order to keep up with the visual action.
BULL
★★★½
8.30pm, Ten
The crack team of trial scientists is forced to carry on trying to get a revenge murderer off the hook while their charismatic leader, Dr Jason Bull (Michael Weatherly), is called up for jury duty. Oh, the irony! His burning impatience is palpable as he does his time in the box. Although it lacks the emotional depth of, say, Boston Legal, this formulaic courtroom drama reliably serves up justice with a side of warm fuzzies.
