MUMBAI: Four men were arrested recently for assaulting and robbing a senior citizen at his hardware store at Old Nagardas Road in Andheri (W). The quartet was tracked down to Titwala through phone surveillance.
Two of them stood guard outside the store, while the others barged in at 9.30am on Tuesday. They brandished a sickle and threatened the 70-year-old store owner. To prevent him from raising an alarm or resisting, the duo bound his arms with a cord and put duct tape on his mouth. They took away Rs35,000 and the owner’s phone.
They panicked and escaped when workers started to arrive and shouted for help. Police said the victim suffered minor injuries. After an FIR was lodged, Andheri police checked call data records and tower location of the phone and found them at Baneli village. A team nabbed Satish Sonawane (20), Vishal Gupta (20), Vikas Sahani (20) and Zainul Hasan Khan (22) and seized the sickle. “We are verifying if the four have a past crime record,” said detection officer Yeshwant Patil.
