Strong wind, rain disrupt power supply to 87 Yavatmal villages

Yavatmal: Power supply to 87 villages in Zari tehsil of Yavatmal district was disrupted on Friday night due to unexpected strong wind and rain.
According to sources in Mahavitran, 20 high tension line towers and 29 smaller ones have fallen while 31 high power towers and 44 smaller ones have bent. Transmission lines stretching hundreds of kilometres have also become defunct, causing heavy losses to the company, they said.
Engineers and other employees managed to restore supply to 62 villages and work is going for remaining villages, the sources said.
33/11kW line in Kayar, Adegaon, Ruikot and Zari substations has also been damaged. The total damage is yet to be ascertained, sources said and urged the villagers to cooperate with the staff to restore the power supply.
