GAYA: A group of Maoists shot dead a former cadre in Gaya suspecting him to be a police informer, police said on Sunday.

The incident happened in Khaira village under the jurisdiction of Dumriya police station on Saturday night when the man was sleeping on the rooftop of a relative's house, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Raghu Ravindra alias Sunil Singh Bhokta, superintendent of police (SP) of Gaya, Sushil Kumar, said.

Bhokta was earlier associated with the CPI (Maoist), the SP said.

The CPI (Maoist) cadres, in a leaflet left behind at the spot, charged Bhokta of being a police informer, he said.

Bhokta had left the CPI(Maoist) around three years ago and had joined Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a police officer said.

The body was sent to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital here for post-mortem examination, the SP said.
