The necessity of the students to have a strong knowledge in subject basics and keep themselves abreast of current trends was stressed by M.S. Suryanarayanan, Associate Vice-President and Head, Development Centre, Infosys, in his Graduation Day address at Saranathan College of Engineering. Mr. Suryanarayanan exhorted the students to gain knowledge on new age technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Emphasising on developing commendable communication skills, he advised them to achieve goals through effective and efficient teamwork. D. Valavan, Principal, presented the Graduation Day report. A total of 667 candidates, including university rank holders, received their degrees in the presence of S. Ravindran, college secretary.

Development of life skills will facilitate learners to reach their career destination, G. Gopinath, Registrar, Bharathidasan University, said in his Graduation Day address at M.I.E.T. Arts and Science College. Citing the philosophy of Osho, he said success will be sweet only when it is achieved through hard work. A. Mohamed Yunus, college chairman, presided over the function. J. Anthoniraj, Principal, presented the annual report. A total of 426 candidates, including university rank holders, received their degrees.

Improving governance, educational opportunities, healthcare systems, agricultural production, infrastructure and strengthening productivity of workforce, bettering environmental quality, reforming financial markets, controlling inflation and increasing global trade were factors that would determine India’s march towards global superpower status, E. Balagurusamy, chairman, EBG Foundation, said while delivering an endowment lecture on ‘Making India a global superpower - key issues’ at National College. To overcome these challenges, there must be adherence to high values, prompt decision-making, disciplined execution, systematic implementation, finely-tuned coordination, continuous efforts and endurance, Prof. Balagurusamy said delivering the Padma Vibhushan Dr.V. Krishnamurthy Endowment Lecture - III organised by the Department of Computer Science.

Around 150 students from over 10 colleges took part in BASICS ’19, a State-level technical symposium, organised by the Department of Science and Humanities of M.A.M. School of Engineering. B. Shanmugarajan, Senior Manager, Welding Research Institute, BHEL, Tiruchi, spoke about the importance of engineering and engineers to develop the society. He called upon the students to transform into skilled engineers rather than just remaining content with graduation degree. He gave away prizes to winners of various events conducted as part of the symposium.
