Ludhiana: A day after the district president of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned from the party, in yet another jolt to the party, its state media team member also walked out of the party and joined the ruling Congress. Darshan Singh Shankar, who served in the public relations department in Ludhiana for 30 years, had joined AAP in 2015.
Talking to The Times of India, Shankar said he was holding the post of a state spokesperson, state media team member, and member of AAP’s executive committee, but after seeing the infighting in the party, he decided to walk out of it. He added that the leadership does not pay much heed to the organization in Ludhiana, which is why the party’s popularity has been declining, and would continue to fall further.
Shankar said he had joined AAP to bring about change and serve the people, but that purpose was not being served, so he decided to quit the party. He added he had joined the Congress, as he was associated with former chief minister Late Beant Singh, and wanted to work for the people.
As Darshan Singh put up the message in Whatsapp groups announcing his resignation from the party, within a few hours, he posted another message in the same groups about his joining the Congress, along with photographs taken with Congress leaders — Ludhiana MP candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu, cabinet minister and MLA (West) Bharat Bhushan Ashu, and others.
In the evening an email from MP Ravneet Singh Bittu’s office had picture attached with it suggesting that Daljit Singh Grewal (Bhola), who had resigned as AAP’s Ludhiana District (Urban) President, joining the Congress party in Chandigarh. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Congress’s Ludhiana MP candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu, Cabinet Minister and MLA West Bharat Bhushan Ashu among others are also seen in the picture.
