LokSabha 2019: 23 candidates in fray in Shirur constituency

Pune: In all, 23 candidates are in the fray in the Shirur Lok Sabha (LS) constituency, as three candidates withdrew their nominations. The constituency will witness a battle between three-time Shiv Sena MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil and actor-turned-politician Amol Kolhe from the Nationlist Congress Party (NCP). 

Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Kagadi Jamirkhan Afjal is also contesting. There are eight candidates of registered political parties. Other than the recognised national and state parties, 12 independents are also contesting from this constituency.
 
Shrikant Nivrutti Chabukswar, an English teacher and Bahujan Mukti Party candidate, said, “We will ensure that the culprits of Bhima Koregaon violence are jailed. We will also create awareness against EVMs among people, as there are chances of EVMs getting rigged. We would also work to ensure that industrial effluents from the MIDC should not enter the river. We would work for issues such as solid waste management and unemployment.” 

In the Maval Lok Sabha constituency, 21 candidates are contesting after seven candidates withdrew their nominations from the list of 28 valid candidates. 

The constituency will see a battle between Nationlist Congress Party (NCP). candidate Parth Pawar and sitting MP Shrirang Barne of the Shiv Sena. Parth, who is the grand nephew of Sharad Pawar and the son of former deputy CM Ajit Pawar, will be fighting for the first time.

There are seven candidates from the registered parties other than the recognised parties and 11 independent candidates in the constituency.
