Ludhiana: In a jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of Lok Sabha elections, its district president for Ludhiana (Urban) Daljeet Singh Grewal (Bhola) resigned from the party on Friday evening. In the resignation letter sent to AAP Punjab president Bhagwant Mann, and forwarded to mediapersons, Bhola said he had resigned from all designations, post and positions, including as president Ludhiana Urban and in-charge of Ludhiana East assembly constituency. Bhola said he did not want to continue with the party, and even resigned from the party’s preliminary membership.
Talking to The Times of India, Bhola said he considered AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal a very honest person, but the the different line the party took on the issue of corruption, and their openness to forming alliances with other parties suggested that many compromises were now being made. Bhola said his friends had told him that for the past 12 years, they made him fight five elections, and so far they had agreed with his decisions, but now they would make their own. Asked about speculations that he was joining the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), he said his friends would take decisions from now, and whatever they decided would be acceptable to him.
