KOLHAPUR: Three of a family including the parents and their newlywed daughter were found dead at their home in Vidyanagar area of Karad City of Satara district. Police said they got to know of the deaths on Friday afternoon. The 23-year-old newlywed, police said, consumed poison and ended her life. Her parents called their son in Pune and informed him of his sister’s death.

The worried son called friends back home and asked them to look up his family. When the friends reached the house, they found the bodies of both parents hanging. Police have not been able to explain what might have caused the parents to end their lives.

The deceased are Shivaji Ananda Mohite (59), Baby Shivaji Mohite (52) and their daughter Vrushali Vikas Bhoite.

“Vrushali married Vikas two months ago. Her brother Viraj works in a private company in Pune. Two days ago Vrushali came to her parents’ house from her in-laws’ place. On Friday afternoon, Shivaji found Vrushali lying on a sofa in a room in the house. Finding her dead, he called Viraj on phone and informed him and abruptly cut the call. When Viraj’s friends visited his house, they found Shivaji and Baby hanging from the ceiling,” a police officer at Karad police station said.

“We have sent the bodies for post mortem after completing panchnama. We are gathering information from Viraj and his relatives to find the possible reason that compelled them to take the extreme step,” the police officer said.
