Bhopal DJ players are facing livelihood crisis following a blanket ban placed on their work by the administration due to Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in connection with general elections. There are nearly 800 DJ players in the state capital who depend on marriage parties to earn their living. DJ Association members called on Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Friday for permission to play in marriage season but issue has not been settled yet. On Saturday, Association’s delegation has been told to meet again to discuss the issue.
As per the association, administration only allows music of two sets box but administration treat decorated van as DJ. An association member termed the ban as administrative apathy as there is no ban on Bands but DJ have been banned. Association has already assured the administration to follow Supreme Court guidelines.
DJ Association president OP Maurya said, “We called on the Chief minister Kamal Nath regarding permission to play at the marriage parties. It is our only source of livelihood. Last month, we have filed bonds on instruction of SDMs and collector. Collector had told us that bond is necessary as administration will not allow after 10 pm. But even after filing of bonds, the administration did not permit us even to play in marriage parties.
We have also assured the administration that we will observe Supreme Court guideline but administration is still adamant. Bands have not been banned but it is pathetic condition is that DJ has been banned landing us in crisis of livelihood during peak season.”
