Lakhs of poor people in need of medical treatment, who could have availed free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, would give “a befitting reply” to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the upcoming Lok Sabha election for obstructing the scheme, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said on Friday.
Addressing the office-bearers of the Residents Welfare Associations in his parliamentary constituency of north east Delhi, Mr. Tiwari said “One cannot understand why the Chief Minister of Delhi ‘does not want’ the benefits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana reach lakhs of people.”
“On the one hand Mr. Kejriwal is weakening the government’s health services and encouraging treatment in costly private hospitals, on the other hand he is not properly serving the people through mohalla clinics. Sometime ago, it was alleged that many people died after treatment in these clinics,” Mr. Tiwari claimed.
Meanwhile, the BJP’s Jhuggi-Jhopdi Cell, Media and Social Media Department and IT Department, initiated a public awareness campaign revolving around the scheme in north east Delhi's Khera Gaon.
Jhuggi-Jhopdi Cell convener Umesh Verma said the scheme was aimed at benefiting those ordinary families confronting sudden illness of a family member beyond their financial capacity.
“Unfortunately there is such a Chief Minister in Delhi who has not implemented this scheme due to his political selfishness and betrayed the people. Today we are apprising the people of Jhuggi Basti in Khera village and also holding a medical camp,” he said. Mr. Verma added that the residents of the area were “sad” when they learnt about this scheme and found out that currently they are not in a position to avail the benefits “because” of the CM.
