Jhansi: BJP’s firebrand leader Uma Bharti slammed Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan for saying that it should be ‘Bajrang Ali’ instead of Ali and Bajrangbali, and demanded that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav should apologize for it.
Responding to a query from reporters while campaigning for Anurag Sharma in Jhansi on Saturday, Bharti said, “By saying such things, nothing is going to happen to him (Bajrangbali) but his devotees will definitely feel bad and this will cost SP very heavily. So, Akhilesh should seek forgiveness on his (Azam’s) statement before it is too late.”

Khan, known for making controversial remarks, had triggered a controversy by saying, “In place of Ali and Bajrangbali, it should be Bajrang Ali. Bajrang Ali tod de dushman ki nali (Bajrang Ali, break the bones of our enemies).”

Asked about the threat from SP-BSP-RLD and Congress, the Jhansi MP said that the fight is between BJP and gathbandhan while Congress will only do ‘aarti’.

On being asked whether the court ruling on admission of papers on Rafale deal will go against BJP, Bharti said, “The court has only accepted documents for further proceeding. It is the highest level of contempt of court by Rahul Gandhi in putting his own words in the mouth of Supreme Court and he should get strict punishment from court for this.” Referring to the ban on Ram Navami procession in Bengal, she said, “Some leaders are crossing all limits to polarise voters, but the people of Bengal will teach them a lesson. The number of BJP seats in Bengal is going to jump this time.”

When asked to comment about AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s attack on Yogi government over the suicide by a handicapped person in Banda alleging that he was being forced to do election duty, she said that election duty is allotted by election commission and not state government.

“It is very unfortunate that a handicapped person has committed suicide but I want to tell Mayawati and Robert Vadra’s wife that they should look within themselves as many people committed suicide iduring Mayawati’s regime and thousands were killed in 1984 anti-Sikh riots,” she added.
