Hyderabad: Woman who killed niece in revenge act gets life term

HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old woman was convicted of killing her one-and-a-half year old niece by a court here on Friday and awarded a life sentence.


Nursing a grudge against her sister-in-law, T Rajyalaxmi took her daughter when she was sleeping in their Chandanagar residence. On June 6, 2015, at around 1 pm, when Renuka went for a bath, the accused took the deceased, Jyothisha while she was sleeping and drowned her in a water drum near her house.


The woman who stays next to her sister-in-law and deceased’s mother, Renuka’s house in Weaker Section Colony Gutta, Reddy Colony in Chandanagar suffered a miscarriage in her eighth month of pregnancy and lost her baby in May 2015.


After Rajyalaxmi lost her child, she held a grudge against Renuka, who had a one and half-year-old daughter, Jyothisha, the duo had frequent arguments. Further the accused used to feel neglected as her mother-in-law used to care more about Renuka and her daughter. One day, her mother-in-law and Renuka abused Rajyalaxmi saying she cannot conceive a baby and said they will marry Rajyalaxmi’s husband again.


On June 6, 2015, when Renuka went for a bath, the accused took Jyothisha while she was sleeping and drowned her in a drum near her house. When Renuka found the body, she registered a case suspecting Rajyalaxmi.
