From this year on, Corpn. fixes specific schedule to collect various types of waste

Forgetting the dates of the city Corporation’s periodic waste collection drive cannot be an excuse any more, as the local body is taking steps to ensure this does not happen.

Instead of just announcing the dates the week before, the Corporation has now released a calender for 2019, in which the specific days on which non-biodegradable waste is collected at various points in the city are marked.

The periodic waste collection drives of the Corporation, which began two years ago, have been hugely successful with tonnes of waste of different categories being collected every month. From this year, more types of waste, including medical strip waste and cloth waste, will be collected.

As per the calender, cleaned, dry plastic waste will be collected on all days. Biodegradable waste such as coconut husk, shells and wood, with slow decomposition rates, will be collected on the fourth Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in all months. Old footwear and bags will be collected on the third Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the months of January, April, July and October.

Glass waste

Glass waste and glass bottles will be collected on the second Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the months of February, May, August, and November. Medicine strip waste will be collected on the third Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the months of February and August.

Rubber and tyre waste will be collected on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the month of March. Cloth waste will be collected on the third Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the month of September.

Electronic waste will be collected on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the months of June and December. The biodegradable waste such as coconut husk, shells, and wood, with slow decomposition rates, will be collected on the fourth Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in all months.

According to city Corporation officials, the calender will be distributed to all residents’ associations and institutions to ensure that more people will bring in waste material accumulated at homes over longer periods of time.
