As elections progress, the political narrative in Bengal seems to be changing. Banerjee’s speeches now focus on criticising the Congress and the Communists as well. Apart from battling all out against Prime Minister
Narendra Modi , Mamata is now appealing to voters not to caste their votes for “Congress and CPM” and trying to convince people that voting for Congress is nothing but a ‘waste’ and they have joined hands with RSS.
Congress president
Rahul Gandhi also hit back saying Banerjee had a history of allying with the BJP. Interestingly, Banerjee is also not speaking much about Gathbandhan, and specifically concentrating on the possibility of Trinamool Congress forming government at the centre. In all public meetings over a week, she goes on emphasising on the key role she would be playing in forming government and also no other party— BJP or Congress— can form government without her.
According to political observers, this evolution in Mamata’s rhetoric is also about her efforts to get block voting from Minority population in north Bengal constituencies, especially in Coochbehar, Raiganj, Malda and Murshidabad, where minorities are majority population in many assembly segments. Minorities in these region are tradional voters of Congress and CPM. She wants to get the vote share of Congress and CPM into her kitty.
Banerjee’s prediction that she has been mentioning in public rallies is not much in favour of Congress, but for the regional parties.
