In view of Lok Sabha elections in neighbouring Karnataka

The 48-hour dry day declared in four taluks in the district starting from 6 p.m. on April 16 in view of the Lok Sabha polls in some neighbouring constituencies in Karnataka is set to dampen the spirit of tipplers.

District Collector Mir Mohammed Ali has declared as dry days in Taliparamba,, Payyannur, Iritty, and Thalassery taluks a 48-hour period prior to the polling day in Karnataka on April 18. As per the Election Commission’s directive, during the 48-hour period before the end of the polling in any constituency and neighbouring areas, the Collector issued the order prohibiting the sale and distribution of liquor, intoxicants, or any such substances in hotels, restaurants, bars, or other shops.

The Collector directed the Deputy Excise Commissioner to take steps to ensure that there was no unauthorised collection or sale of liquor during the dry day period. In the first phase on April 18, Bangalore Central, Bangalore North, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore South, Chamarajanagar, Chikkballapur, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Tumkur, Udupi, and Chikmangalur will go to polls.

Teams of Excise personnel would keep a close eye on the unauthorised storage and sale of liquor in the taluks during the dry days.
