Parents rejoice after Supreme Court’s order

In a big blow to schools that have been charging more fees, the Supreme court stated that the schools cannot charge more than what has been decided by the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC). The court further instructed the schools to admit students who have been handed over the leaving certificates for non-payment of the fees.

Parents of Global Indian International School (GIIS) whose children were handed over LC's for non-payment of fees have been fighting for many days now. Despite the order by FRC, the school refused to let children in and asked them to take admission again by paying fees as they demanded.

Jay Parikh, one of the aggrieved parent of GIIS, said, "We have been running from pillar to post to fight for our kids over the fee issue. It is a celebration time not just for GIIS parents, but for many others who were forcibly handed over LC's for non-payment of fees in past few months."

Speaking with DNA, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, state education minister said, "We are very grateful to the Supreme court for passing the order in our favour. It is a great relief for parents. The order is the result of sheer patience and determination from our end. We are glad that order is in line with our intent of benefitting the student community in Gujarat."

Chudasama further said, "GIIS will have to re-admit the students who were given LC's, it also implies with other schools who have given LC's to innocent students."

A GIIS spokesperson said, "GIIS has consistently stated in the past that it has always followed and implemented the directions given by the Supreme court. Today Supreme Court has passed an order and as committed earlier, GIIS shall follow its orders."
