EVMs shifted to strongroom in AU

Tight security arranged to bring those machines from Agency areas

Tight security has been arranged on the premises of strongroom in Andhra University area here on Friday, where EVMs from various constituencies are being stored after the polling process.

EVM machines along with VVPATs were brought from various constituencies in the urban and semi-urban areas on Friday morning, while the equipment from Agency and interior areas are expected to reach by late night.

Officials from district administration said that about 4,058 ballot units have been arranged for the polling for Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Araku Parliamentary Constituencies, while 4,329 ballot units were used for 15 Assembly constituency polling in Visakhapatnam district.

According to sources, EVMs from interior areas of Agency, especially Maoist hotbeds, were airlifted to mandal headquarters- Araku and Paderu on Thursday evening itself. On Friday afternoon, the officials sent the equipment to strongroom in AU with full-fledged security convoy.

The EVMs from Paderu are being brought with rural police and BSF convoy led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Paderu) Prem Kumar, while machines from Araku are being brought with a convoy led by Inspector Appalanaidu. Both the convoys are expected to reach by 10 p.m. Sources said that the EVMs from Narsipatnam, Yelamanchili, Chodavaram, Payakaraopeta and a few other areas have already been reached.
