LUDHIANA: Ludhiana Rural police on Friday arrested a man wih 200g heroin in Jagraon. The accused was identified as Jaspal Singh alias Jassi Pulsar from Dugri.
Senior superintendent of police (Ludhiana Rural) Varinder Singh Brar said they arrested Jaspal at a checkpost set up in the area.
Inspector Navdeep Singh, in charge of anti-narcotics wing of Ludhiana rural police, said some addicts had informed them about Jassi selling drugs through his couriers. He said later, one of their men, posing as a buyer, called him to get drugs. Jassi fell into the police trap and came to Jagraon to supply the drugs, after which he was arrested.
A police officer said Jassi was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Jagraon city police station. During investigation, it came to light that he was a proclaimed offender in a drug peddling case of 2015. He would get heroin from a neighbouring state at cheaper rates and supply it to addicts on higher rates in Ludhiana and Jagraon.
“Among his clients are youngsters from reputed families in Ludhiana and Jagraon. We are working on breaking the supply chain of drug peddlers,” said a police official. He added that the estimated cost of the recovered consignment in the international market was around Rs1.25 crore.
A police officer said the accused was addicted to drugs, and because of this habit, his wife and children had left him some time ago.
