Ghaziabad: Security measures at Govindpuram Anaj Mandi, where EVMs have been kept in strong rooms for counting to take place on May 23, have been beefed up. A three-layer security system, comprising paramilitary forces and police, has been put in place. District magistrate Ritu Maheshwari held a meeting with the officials on the security measures on Friday.
Ghaziabad registered over 56% voter turnout in the Lok Sabha polls with men and women coming out in almost equal numbers to vote on Thursday.
According to election officials, EVMs and VVPATs were immediately shifted to strong rooms at the Mandi after polls got over on Thursday evening.
“Three layers of security covers have been deployed for the safety of EVMs. Paramilitary force forms the inner circle of security while Ghaziabad police are ensuring their safety from outside. EVMs have been kept in four blocks, each manned by the CISF in the inner circle. CCTV cameras have been mounted in all the blocks. Only authorised election officials will be given access to counting centers,” said SSP Upendra Kumar Agrawal. The outer two layers will be manned by two sub-inspectors and eight constables each.
These security arrangements will be in place in both Ghaziabad and Gauatm Budh Nagar for over a month . Couting will take place on May 23.
