A man, who sought shelter from the scorching heat by sleeping between parked trucks, was crushed to death when a truck driver pulled out his vehicle at Peenya on Friday.
Around 9 a.m., Hanumanthaiah, 55, who had migrated from Raichur to the city to work as a porter of cement bags, decided to take a nap in the shade between parked trucks near ESI hospital in Peenya. However, a truck driver, who was unaware of the Hanumanthaiah sleeping close to his truck’s wheel, started the vehicle and drove out of the parking lot. In the process, Hanumanthaiah was crushed to death, said the Yeshwantpur traffic police.
On realising this, the truck driver fled from the spot.
“We obtained the truck number from locals and traced the owner of the vehicle. The driver had parked it in the godown there. While the vehicle has been retrieved, the driver has absconded,” said a police official.

Man killed as car crashes into ‘raja kaluve’
A 26-year-old was killed when he lost control of his car and crashed into a ‘raja kaluve’ near Doddakannahalli on Sarjapur Road on Thursday night.
Pavan, 26, a resident of Doddakannahalli who runs a small shop of iron and steel products, died on the spot, while his two friends, Babujaan and Arun, sustained minor injuries.
According to HSR Layout traffic police, the three people had gone to a relative’s house at Chikkanayakahalli and were returning home when the accident took place. Pavan was reportedly speeding on a small stretch close to Halanayakahalli lake. He lost control of the car on a sharp curve and crashed into the mud-walled canal that feeds rainwater into the lake.
The car plunged 8 feet, but police officials suspect the impact of the steering wheel on the chest killed Pavan on the spot. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. His friends suffered only minor injuries.
The police are awaiting a post-mortem report, while a case has been filed against the deceased driver for death due to negligence.
