Ludhiana-based social activist Rajdeep Benipal has written a letter to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh, and demanded a probe into the custodial death of a 20-year-old boy.Twenty-year-old Karan, who was a three-wheeler driver, died in police custody on April 7, 2019 at the Janakpuri police station.

In his letter, Rajdeep Benipal informed the commission that victim Karan was arrested by the police in a motorcycle theft case. On April 7 morning, Karan fell sick and blood was coming out from his mouth. A few minutes later, Karan died. Rajdeep Benipal said that the parents of the victim have accused the police of physical and mental torture which led to the death of Karan in police custody.

The family members of the victim protested against the police, but later they were forced to lift the protest following police pressure.Rajdeep Benipal urged the Human Rights Commission to order a probe and take action against the guilty cops as the case is clear-cut violation of human rights.
