The grandmother remained in hospital for two weeks and hospital costs reached an eye-watering $100,000.
This included anaesthetics, pathology, consultants, surgeons, prosthesis, scans and medicine.
The family is only covered for $10,000 with their travel insurance because of Ms Dass' age. Her son, Daniel, says he was not aware of this clause when purchasing the insurance.
Daniel, who says he has already sold his car to pay off a chunk of the invoice, has since launched a GoFundMe page requesting help to pay off the bill.
