Short film to create awareness on skin donation

A family and its friends have come together to produce Venba, a 20-minute short film to create awareness on skin donation.

Venba’s director Lakshmi Parameswaran said at a press meet here that the film was available on Youtube from Friday evening. It touches an important subject, skin donation, and is aimed at creating awareness among the public.

“It is not that people are not aware of the subject the film talks about, but they do not know how to go about it. It also shows the events that take place in the life of the lead character, a woman.”

Ms. Parameswaran, who has also penned the script, says the idea for the film sprung up after the death of a family member.

“The member died in April 2017 in a fire accident and that is when I thought about the subject. I immediately penned a script, on the strength of having done a few social awareness projects.”

The team, labelled ‘Number One Heaven Tunes’, took three days to complete the shoot. “We were fortunate to have the support of musician Mohan Vaidya and actress ‘Vennira aadai’ Nirmala and a few others, who essayed their roles pro bono after learning about the project,” Ms. Parameswaran says.

But why Venba as the title? Ms. Parameswaran replies: as a Tamil poetic style, venba conveys ideas in a few lines. Since the short film also does the same, she named it Venba.

The posters of the film were released here on Friday by BJP State secretary Vanathi Srinivasan.
