CHENNAI: Male voters in Tamil Nadu may have to wait a little longer to cast their vote as one male voter will be allowed into the polling booth only after two female voters. This is to prevent women, including pregnant women, from standing in the queue for long, said chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo.
Incidentally, the state has more female voters than male and the Election Commission has decided to give priority to them. Similarly, senior citizens and people with disability will also be given priority.
Meanwhile, the number of first time voters in Tamil Nadu has increased by 3.13 lakh between January 10 electoral and the final electoral released on March 26. The number has increased due to voter awareness campaign in colleges and other institutions.
