Mumbai: Cases of robbery in the local trains have increased rapidly, over the last six years. In all 3,168 cases of robbery and crimes have been lodged by the railway police. Cash and valuables worth Rs 6.96 crore were robbed by the miscreants.
According to activist Shakeel Ahmed Sheikh who sought information from the Railway Police, under the Right to Information Act (RTI), from January 1, 2013, to December 2018, a total of 3,168 incidents of crime were registered.
In the last six years, valuables or cash worth Rs 6.47 crore was robbed, assets worth Rs 3.64 crore was reported lost. Only 50 per cent of the assets or cash have been recovered till date.
