TB hospital staffers protest against biometric ‘failure’

MUMBAI: Class IV workers from the civic-run TB Hospital in Sewri held a protest on Friday to highlight their loss of pay due to the implementation of the biometric attendance system. “Almost 400 workers got nil salary in March and lost all their leaves due to the failure of the system,” said Pradeep Narkar of Municipal Mazdoor Union.
The system only recognizes a Sunday off, but as workers have weekly offs on different days, they were marked as absent. He added that their protest didn’t affect patient care. In the evening, the hospital agreed to appoint a clerk to oversee the biometric system.
