16 police cars respond to violent brawl in Kings Park
Sixteen police cars were called to break up a violent brawl involving up to 100 people in Kings Park on Friday night, Police Commissioner Chris Dawson has revealed.
Several people were knocked unconscious in the violence. One man remains in hospital with head injuries.
The brawl started about 10.40pm when two buses full of people arrived near Frasers restaurant.
The two groups then clashed soon after and began fighting.
Police say the two groups were known to one another but the meeting between them was not planned.
"It took some time to bring the brawl under control," Mr Dawson said on Saturday morning.
"We believe up to 100 people were involved in quite a violent confrontation."
Mr Dawson said 16 police cars were sent to the scene.
He said a woman had her handbag stolen while she was giving an injured person first-aid.
"We arrested three people last night and moved on many more," Mr Dawson said.
"The fact that it happened at Kings Park ... is very disturbing.
"We deployed as many police as we could ... people were using sticks, weapons and other things that they got from the gardens.
"The matter was brought under control but it did take sometime because there was a running fight."
Police are continuing to investigate the brawl and Mr Dawson has urged any witnesses to come forward.
