Digital campaigns are taking center stage in India's elections. Both major political parties have spent sizable sums on social media and Bollywood-style music videos. First-time voters are using social media to engage with political parties. According to Indian fact-checker AltNews, political ads on Facebook in the first two weeks of March amounted to more than $3.5 million. More than half were ads for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The election is being held in seven phases and continues until May 19.
