A traffic park would soon be established on the premises of the Children’s Park at Molagoundampalayam on Karur Bypass Road here at a cost of ₹ 90 lakh.
The park, located in Ward 60, is in a deplorable condition due to poor maintenance by the Corporation. The park is not in use as the residents’ plea to carry out development works did not yield any result.
The district police has identified a portion of the park to establish the traffic park.
In spite of opposition from the residents, who wanted the park to be developed with better facilities, works for setting up traffic park began here recently.
Residents wanted the civic body to take steps to convert it into a green park. They said that apart from planting saplings, lawns, walking area, lighting facilities, play materials for children and drinking water facilities could be made available so that public can utilise it.
However, senior officials said that only a portion of the space was being utilised for traffic park. They said that the park would have traffic signboards, riding track and all the fundamentals of traffic rules and regulations that one need to follow for a safer ride on roads. Gadgets used by the traffic police personnel will also be on display.
Officials said that the traffic park would be of use to school and college students.
