Scale models of SSLV among those on display

A model of the space suit designed for Gaganyaan astronauts and a scale model of the proposed Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) are among the big draws at this year’s Thrissur Pooram exhibition at Thekkinkad Maidan.

Other exhibits in the 4,000 sq ft pavilion set up by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) include a 1:10 scale model of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk-III (GSLV Mk-III) and 1:3 scale model of the Crew Module designed for the human space flight mission.

S. Somanath, director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), inaugurated the pavilion on Saturday.

This is also the first time that scale models of the SSLV and crew modules are being displayed outside the VSSC. The SSLV will be capable of placing 500 kg payloads in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Other draws at this year’s exhibition include scale models of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, GSLV Mk-II, and the Reusable Launch Vehicle Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD).

The ISRO has also put on display a Cartosat-2 series map of Thrissur and information panels on ISRO satellites and the space programme.

The exhibition will be on till May 23, VSSC officials said.
