Submitted fake property tax receipt

A Kalyan man, who stood surety for a cheating case accused, has now been booked for cheating and forgery.

Assistant Superintendent Balkrishna Tukaram Shelar of Vashi Civil Court has registered a case against Arun Shinde, who allegedly submitted a forged receipt of property tax paid to the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), claiming that he owned the said property.

The Vashi court magistrate had directed the Nerul police to verify the documents, during which it was found that no such person owned the property in question.

On February 22, Mr. Shinde stood surety for Nadeem Shaikh, a Belapur village resident, who was arrested in a cheating and forgery case. As part of the procedure, Mr. Shinde submitted a KDMC property tax receipt dated January 6, a ration card and an affidavit.

“Mr Shelar had checked that the affidavit matched with the documents provided. But when he was verifying the documents, the KDMC informed him that no such person owns any property in its jurisdiction. The magistrate then directed Mr. Shelar to lodge a first information report in the matter. The accused is absconding,” a police officer from CBD Belapur police station said.

Mr. Shinde has been booked under Sections 417 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
