A day after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that an under construction mohalla clinic in Karol Bagh was demolished by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, PWD Minister Satyendar Jain said on Friday that another under construction mohalla clinic along the roadside in Karol Bagh was allegedly demolished by BJP-ruled civic body.
However, the civic body said that it has not demolished the clinic, but was dismantled by a contractor of the PWD of the Delhi government.
“BJP’s civic body demolished another under construction mohalla clinic at mid-night. Delhi government. kept raising its voice against North body’s malicious intent since Thursday,” Mr. Jain said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, North Delhi Municipal Corporation commissioner Varsha Joshi said that no demolition had taken place and a PWD contractor had dismantled the construction on Thursday night.
She had earlier tweeted that the structure had to be removed as it cannot be constructed on the main carriageway of a congested road without permission. “We have advised PWD that if they want to make any such [constructions] they are welcome to apply for NOC,” Ms. Joshi said.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Minister, Shaleen Mitra alleged that it was demolished by the north civic body around 2 a.m. on Friday. “The civic body had told us on Thursday that they would demolish the mohalla clinic, but there was no written communication from them,” he said. Mr. Mitra added that the BJP-ruled corporation want to halt the work of the mohalla clinics.
Meanwhile, Mayors of the three civic bodies lashed out at the Chief Minister at a joint press conference on Friday.
Terming the Chief Minister’s allegations of demolition of the clinics as “false propaganda,” north Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta said that the CM was misleading the public by uttering a new lie everyday as he had not fulfilled any of the promises he had made.
East Delhi Mayor Bipin Bihari Singh took the opportunity to attack the CM over the lack of funds to the corporations. He said that the Kejriwal government was trying to “paralyse the corporations” by withholding funds to local bodies.
SDMC Mayor Narender Chawla said that the Delhi government had to release funds to the south body under the Third, Fourth and Fifth Finance Commission but have not done yet. Hence, the corporation was unable to pay salaries to sanitation workers, supply midday meals and open new schools.
