Two cases of rape, molestation in 48 hours

KOLKATA: Two separate cases of crime against women were registered in the city in the past 48 hours. In the first incident of alleged molestation and assault, a young woman from Nepal Pally in Panchasayar alleged that she was attacked when she was accompanying her elder brother to demand money owed to him by a house owner.


She has lodged a complaint against one Rajkumar Karmakar, who had allegedly promised to sell his house to the woman’s family but later back-tracked. Karmakar, on Thursday, allegedly molested her and assaulted her brother. The accused has lodged a counter complaint.


In the other incident at Sinthee, a 22-year-old woman, originally from Bamanghata, alleged thatshewas rapedfor two-and-ahalf years at a rented house by one Biswanath Das against false promise of marriage.
