SF Motors Renamed To Seres, Launches 684 HP SF5 Electric Crossover

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer SF Motors has changed its name to Seres and unveiled the production version of the SF5 crossover concept it displayed last year.

When the SF5 was unveiled as a concept, it was pretty obvious that it would have to undergo a series of alterations before reaching the production line. That’s exactly what has happened.

Whereas the concept featured headlights and daytime running lights dominated by a single light bar which stretched across the width of the front bumper, the production-spec Seres SF5 has a pair of more traditional headlights and DRLs. The car manufacturer has also altered the sides of the SF5, removing the faux air vents behind the front wheel arches and slightly altering the roof line. At the rear, the SF5 features a small spoiler, black accents, and narrow taillights connected by a horizontal light bar.

Seres will sell its first production vehicle in two guises. The first variant is dubbed the SF5 EV and features a 90 kWh battery pack and a total of 684 hp and 767 lb-ft (1039 Nm) of torque. This model will accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and reach a 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed while offering an impressive 310-mile (499 km) range.

A range-extended model dubbed the SF5 EVR will also be sold, complete with a smaller 33 kWh battery that offers 93 miles (150 km) of usable range. This model needs 4.8 seconds to hit 62 mph and tops out at 143 mph (230 km).

The road-going Seres SF5 will be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show later this month.
