AHMEDABAD: A 45-year-old woman, a counsellor at a private school, on Wednesday filed a complaint with Chandkheda police stating that her husband burned her with a hot clothes iron, when she was ironing clothes at their home in the Motera area of the city on Monday.

The complainant who is from Delhi, had married the city-based man in 2014. She has also stated that her husband and in-laws would thrash and demand dowry. On Sunday evening, she was severely beaten by her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law and was thrown out of the house. She then went to Chandkheda police and filed an application of complaint against her husband and in-laws. After filing the application, she returned home late on Sunday night. Her in-laws and husband then got angry about her “roaming about late at night” and thrashed and abused her, the FIR stated. The complainant also stated that her husband told her that if she told the police about the thrashing, he would kill her. When she confronted him about the treatment meted out to her, he took the hot clothes iron and burned her hand and palm. The woman then called the cops. Chandkheda police arrived at the house and registered her complaint under the IPC sections for assault and under the Domestic Violence Act. tnn
