Spurned taxi driver kills girl

The Chitlapakkam police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old call-taxi driver after he allegedly killed a girl as she spurned his marriage proposal.

The suspect, Santhosh, a native of Thanjavur, was a taxi driver. He was living with his brother Sathish and sister-in-law Arul Mozhi in Chitlapakkam. The victim was Akila, 21,was Arul Mozhi’s sister. Akila was staying in a hostel in Irumbuliyur and working in a private company as a lab technician. For long, Santosh has been asking her to marry him.

Recently, when Sathish and Arul Mozhi went to Thanjavur, Santhosh invited Akila to his brother’s house for a discussion, police said.

Later, he called his brother and other family members and informed them that Akila had fallen down the stairs hit her head on the grille gate and was unconscious. The family members suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with the police. On investigation, the police found that he had strangulated her to death after she refused to marry him.
